The idea for 'The Wall' began in 2018 when Head of Geography, David Anderson, took a team of students to a University Challenge match at a local grammar schools. The team were struck by how that school celebrated the successes of their alumni and how good it would be if Manwood's started to talk more about its alumni and their achievements. However, that's where things stalled because the job of researching all of this seemed just too daunting.
Fast forward to 2022 and the committee of the Old Manwoodian Association had just recruited David Stevens and Keith Simpson, who were keen to bring the alumni and the school closer together; this seemed an ideal project. Wikipedia had a suspiciously short list of 23 'notable' alumni and their achivements, so a huge amount of energy went into a search to uncover the stories of more Old Manwoodians.
In November of that year, David and Keith met with the Headmaster, Lee Hunter, to discuss how they might identify a group of six candidates, whose achievements and memories of Manwood's would be displayed in a poster on 'The Wall’ in the School hall each yearl. Click on each person to see their poster and find out more about them.
